“There was something about this vintage…when the fruit came in it’s like we were under some kind of a spell,” says Ali. “I don’t even know if we could come close to making this wine again.” Grenache needs a longer season than most other varietals so in a good vintage you are allowed some extra hang time, which we got in 2016. With the additional heat from the renown Rocks District cobble, this Grenache certainly found its sweet spot. “When it came in, we weren’t really prepared for it and that ended up being a beautiful thing because it allowed us to color outside of the lines,” explains Ali. “It was a perfect storm of creativity, opportunity, and ingenuity.” We’re currently exploring real-time fingerprint scanning security systems run by neutral third parties to help us keep our greedy hands off this wine. It’s so good we might otherwise drink it all.
